Dahab's Mayor delighted at BSAC support Press release: 2
August 2006
The Mayor of the Red Sea resort of Dahab sent his warmest regards to the
British Sub Aqua Club after receiving a letter of support from BSAC
Chair Marcus Allen. The move to support Dahab was initiated by the
London Region of BSAC on the first anniversary of the London bombings.

A delegation from London Region met with the Mayor of Dahab on Thursday
27 July to hand over BSAC's message of support, along with a letter from
Ken Livingstone, the Mayor of London. Mayor El Rauf has asked British
divers to support Dahab in the following ways Continue to visit
the town and the superb dive sites of Dahab Help to explore the
Dahab coastline to find new dive sites Help the environment by
supporting a rubbish collection and recycling scheme Protect the
reef by helping to provide constructed entry points at dive sites, which
will minimise coral damage Help to fund information signs at dive
sites in different languages, to explain safety points and coral
protection guidelines
BSAC's London Region will be working with Dahab's Mayor, dive centres in
Dahab and environmental agencies to help meet these aims. Updates and
progress on the initiative will be posted on this website, and a
presentation will be given at the London Festival of Diving on

Marcus Allen's message of support Dear Mayor El Rauf
I am writing on behalf of British Sub Aqua Club (BSAC), the largest
diving club in the world.
British divers are keen to forge international friendships and take
responsibility to help sustain the places in the world that they visit
to dive.
There is a special bond of friendship between London and Dahab because
both towns have experienced terrorist bombings, so it is natural that
London divers will want to support Dahab.
The British Sub Aqua Club supports this initiative and wishes it every
success.
Please pass on my thoughts and best wishes to the people of Dahab.
Yours sincerely Marcus Allen BSAC Chairman
Ken Livingstone's message of support
Dear Mayor El Rauf
On behalf of all Londoners, I would like to pay tribute to the people of
Dahab. I understand that since the terrible bomb attacks on your town on
24 April of this year you have been working with the London Region of
the British Sub Aqua Club to promote the re-development of your town's
vital tourism industry. I would like to offer this work, and the
solidarity it promotes, my support and backing.
Please pass on my thoughts and best wishes to the people of Dahab.
With warm regard
Yours sincerely Ken Livingstone Mayor of London
