>Bernard Eaton wins London Leadership Award

Bernard Eaton London Leadership Award The DIVER magazine publisher; a life-long supporter of BSAC was honoured with the first London Leadership Award* at the London Divers' Social on Sat 2 Dec for his outstanding contribution to the British diving community.

The award has been created as part of an initiative to build closer relationships within UK diving:

  • recognising achievement
  • rewarding innovation and leadership
  • encouraging those who work towards the 'bigger picture' of diving in the UK
The DIVER group

Bernard's DIVER group grew from the very earliest days of UK diving. The magazine that he began producing for divers in 1963 was an essential tool that allowed British diving to establish a core identity.

Today, DIVER magazine has grown to become independent of the BSAC and is still the best-selling magazine in the UK. It provides British divers with a much-needed community focus. It remains true to the values of those early years of British diving - representing the voice of divers, reporting on the best of British diving achievements, and highlighting the triumphs and concerns of the community.

Bernard first experienced the rigours of diver training at Holborn branch BSAC in the early 1960s. Article here

The award was presented by Mike Busutilli, a man who has held every major role within the BSAC and who had the dubious pleasure of being Bernard's diving instructor!

"It's impossible to understand the history and evolution of British diving without acknowledging the central role that Bernard Eaton has played in that process. His contribution has already been recognised in the US Diving Hall of Fame; it's time for us to honour our own!"

* The London Leadership Award references the central role that London has played in the development of British diving. Today's BSAC London Regional team are stepping up to the challenge of putting London back at the heart of British diving.
